Wallingford Netball Club has a Silver CAPS rating. This covers the areas of safeguarding and protecting children, quality coaching and officiating, equal opportunities and good management and indicates that we are a well run club which is active and accessible. Silver award clubs have also demonstrated a further commitment to ensuring a club environment which provides a higher quality of coaching, leadership and volunteer opportunities for young people.
Our Silver CAPS Award was gained in September 2017 and is valid for 4 years. We are continuing to work hard towards meeting the Gold criteria so that we can upgrade in the future.
What is CAPS?
The Club Action Planning Scheme or CAPS is an accreditation scheme for netball clubs with junior sections. It is aligned to Sports England Clubmark scheme which is the only national cross sports quality accreditation scheme. It is built around a set of core criteria which ensures that accredited clubs operate to a set of consistent, accepted and adopted minimum operating standards. Clubs achieving this accreditation are recognised nationally as having a well run club which is active and accessible. This means getting the best out of young people and giving everyone a sporting chance.
CAPS has three levels of accreditation. Bronze, Silver and Gold. Bronze CAPS is the first level, incorporating the Clubmark criteria and covers the areas of safeguarding and protecting children, quality coaching and officiating, equal opportunities, and good management. Bronze must be achieved before Silver or Gold. Silver and Gold CAPS is about demonstrating further quality across the areas of coaching, officiating, and developing volunteers. Clubs achieving Silver or Gold are demonstrating that they have met the minimum operating standards required for Clubmark, but have also demonstrated a further commitment to ensuring a club environment which provides a higher quality of coaching, leadership and volunteer opportunities for young people.
Why is CAPS important to us?
The club is run by volunteers who take great pride in ensuring that it is run to a high standard. By achieving CAPS it provides recognition of how well the club is run and makes sure that we have everything in place that we should have. We want to make sure that our players, coaches, umpires, and volunteers can have confidence that they are part of a club that will not only provide them with netball opportunities, but take care of them and provide development opportunities too.
It also helps us ensure we help young people achieve their potential and give everyone a sporting chance, whilst ensuring that that the club is fun and friendly to be involved in.
CAPS enables the club to develop in a wide range of areas such as:
- Increasing membership and retaining members
- Developing coaches, umpires and volunteers
- Developing links with schools
- Raising the profile of the club
- Adopting good practice with regards to duty of care and sports equity
It’s something we work hard to achieve and are very proud of!
