Storms are Division 4 winners! End of winter season report

What a Storming season!

After a reshuffle over the summer, Storms were formed with some new members and others swapping around within the squads. A few people were moved and were taking on new positions – looking back they took on the challenge extremely well and improved hugely as the season went on. The team gradually gained good team morale and confidence in each other.

The season started ok, but we had several injuries on the run up to Christmas. Thanks to Sam, Nina and Justine who we borrowed for a match when we were short. We won all but two matches in the first half of the season, which was a great advantage going into the second set of matches.

You will be pleased to know that we didn’t stop there. We welcomed Sue back after being away in Australia, but sadly lost Sarah to Hurricanes and Hollie and Lucy who both had to stop due to school workload. Everyone endured a slow start back after Christmas, with the second and third matches being cancelled due to the weather. These matches were added on to the end, making the season much longer.

The team grew stronger and stronger as all players were consistently at training and playing matches as a core team from week to week. The movement around the court improved as Storms were focusing on space and double offers. Becky and Nicky have been working their shooting magic in the circle with the help of Donna and Louise. Julie and myself have been finding good space to work the ball down from the strong defence of Emma, Sue, Laura and Debi.

After Christmas, Storms became unbeatable and the points and goal difference allowed us to move away from the other teams – they could not catch us. It has been an enjoyable season with the opportunity to play with an established team; we have only needed to borrow a few players.  Thanks to Sarah, Leanne, Charlie, Lois and Julie W for scoring/playing for us. After some very cold (and sometimes wet and windy) matches at Central Venue we are looking forward to the summer league.

Please see the senior ‘Fixtures and Results’ section on the website for Storms’ scores and match reports.

Congratulations to all in Storms who have managed to win Division 4, Winter 12/13!
